Description:
- Mokalbari tea estate is nestled on the southern banks of the Brahmaputra River in Upper Assam.
- The estate's name is derived from the words "MOKAL" and "BARI," with "MOKAL" referring to a unique variety of tall, thick-stemmed bamboos, and "BARI" meaning a specific location or garden.
- This lush region's history dates back to the late 19th century when a British planter discovered that the area’s abundant sandy loam soil, deposited by the Brahmaputra River, was perfect for cultivating tea.
- Established in 1876, Mokalbari tea estate began its journey by replacing the tall bamboo groves with tea plants, quickly becoming a significant producer of high-quality Assam Orthodox and CTC teas.
- The estate spans an impressive 1,022 hectares, producing 2 million kilograms of tea annually.
- With two state-of-the-art factories, Mokalbari has the capacity to produce 2.5 million kilograms of tea each year, supported by a dedicated workforce of 1,600 skilled laborers.
- The Kanoi family, who took over the estate in the early 20th century, has meticulously nurtured Mokalbari to its current status as one of India’s finest tea estates.
- Renowned for its exquisite Tippy Golden teas, the estate's unique tea bushes produce green leaves essential for creating these premium teas.
- Mokalbari’s teas are renowned for their quality, forming the base of top East Frisian blends, and exemplifying the rich, characteristic flavors of Assam’s finest teas.
